One of the most overused excuses for not being physically active is, “I don’t have the time to exercise.”

Start training now for this year’s Reindeer Run!

Every day, we find time to get ready in the morning, drive to work, run errands, cook dinner, and many more activities in between. However, we often forget to make time for one of the most important people in our lives- ourselves.

Your health is impacted by many different factors, such as stress, genetics, eating habits, and physical activity. It’s not news to us that we need to treat our bodies well to be healthy (but if you need a little reminder, check out this information from the American Heart Association about being physically active). Somehow, it keeps coming down to that tried and true excuse- time.

“I don’t have the time.”

‘I’ll start exercising next month.”

“It’ll be my new year’s resolution.”

NOW is the time to reframe our thoughts, take a moment to step back from all the busyness, and start making time for you and your health.

Now is the time to make time to be active.

How, you ask? On the second Saturday day of each December, the Chatham County Public Health Department, Active Chatham, and community partners and residents from across Chatham County get together for the annual Active Chatham 5K Reindeer RuIMG_1359n/Walk and Rudolph’s Family Fun Run. The Active Chatham 5K Reindeer Run/ Walk and Rudolph’s Family Fun Run not only provide an opportunity to be active outdoors, but are also a great community event that lets us spend time with friends, family, and neighbors while helping to raise funds for parks, trails, and playgrounds that will be used throughout the year! Past race proceeds have been used to build a kiosk at Town Lake Park, rebuild Town Lake Park’s trail bridges, purchase and install shade trees and musical play equipment at Kiwanis Park, pave the walking loop at Mary Hayes Barber Holmes Park Greenway, and, most recently, support the development of the Robeson Creek Greenway.

So don’t delay! Make time to exercise and be active. Mark your calendar today!
